Our Story

The principles and values our owners and employees learned while serving in the United States Armed Forces are the same principles and values that guide Black Oak Construction today.

An oak leaf cluster is used in the military to denote preceding decorations and awards of the Department of Defense.

The REMODELING Magazine Big 50 is an annual award honoring the top 50 remodeling companies in the U.S. that exemplify excellence in business practices, craftsmanship, design, and community impact.

The Big 50 is a remodeling business excellence award that recognizes companies that have set exceptionally high standards for professionalism, integrity, and quality.

It is considered one of the most prestigious honors in the contracting and remodeling industry.
Winners are chosen for:

The list is not based on company size, but on the quality of work, business approach, and influence in the field

Selection Process

  • Begins in late fall with nominations from REMODELING editors, industry associations (NARI, NAHB Remodelers Council), and other leaders.
  • Initial pool is about 300 nominees, narrowed to 50 finalists.
  • Companies are asked to provide details on their business model, marketing, design, community involvement, and client testimonials.
  • Finalists are interviewed, and winners are announced in May, featured in the July–August issue of REMODELING Magazine.
